EMV Certification Testing
To further improve compatibility between past and present payment systems the payment brands; Europay, MasterCard and Visa created a set of specifications for smart cards called the EMV system. These Technical Specifications apply to smart cards and payment terminals that accept card schemes under EMV.
Originally founded by Europay, MasterCard and Visa the standard is now managed by EMVCo with more companies involved including UnionPay, JCB, American Express and Discover.
EMV Certification Level 1
There are 3 levels of EMV certification. EMV certification level 1 covers the lower level physical, electrical and communication (transport) requirements of EMV transactions. Level 2 covers the software/application layer and level 3 covers brand requirements.
Card Testing International smart card contact and contactless testing covers the requirements laid out by the EMV level 1 specifications. Levels 2 and 3 are not applicable to the EMV card requirements that CTI tests for.
